Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday said the U.S. will to fight Iran was “endless” and that it was up to President Trump to decide how long the operations would last. “Ultimately, the president gets to determine the end state of those objectives,” he told reporters when asked about the timeline for the conflict, adding that the military’s job was to provide “maximum options.” The secretary said the administration, which has been vague on a timeline, has repeatedly made clear that the operations would not be “endless.” “The president has set a very specific mission to accomplish, and our job is to unrelentingly deliver that. Now, he gets to control the throttle. He’s the one deciding,” he said. “It’s not for me to posit whether it’s the beginning, the middle or the end. That’s his, and he’ll continue to communicate that.” President Trump has given mixed signals on how long the conflict will last, saying Monday that the war was “very complete, pretty much,” but also that “we haven’t won enough.”
