Tim Walz (D) on Thursday said he was "cautiously optimistic" after the Trump administration announced it was ending its surge of federal immigration officers in his state.   "But the fact of the matter is, they left us with deep damage, generational trauma," he said at a press conference in St. Paul. "They left us with economic ruin. In some cases, they left us with many unanswered questions. Where are our children? Where and what is the process of the investigations into those that were responsible for the deaths of Renee [Good] and Alex [Pretti]?"   The governor, who has repeatedly decried the federal surge as an invasion, said his state would now move into a period of "recovery."   "While the federal government may move on to whatever next thing they want to do, the state of Minnesota and our administration is unwaveringly focused on the recovery of what they did," he said. "The federal government needs to pay for what they broke here."   The governor said his administration would focus on helping the state recover economically, including providing loans to small businesses impacted by the operations.   "It's going to be a long road," he said.
